President’s Message

Rotary Year 2010-2011

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville web site. In keeping with the Rotary motto “Service above Self” , adopted by Rotary International in 1950,  the Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville prides itself in developing and implementing opportunities for building a healthy and safer community and world.  Some of these opportunities are highlighted elsewhere on this website.  I encourage you visit this site often and more important to contact us to learn more about Rotary and ultimately join with the Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville (RCGH) as we work on future projects.

Rotary International (RI) is an organization that continually moves to be responsive to changing world needs.  In 2008 The Rotary Foundation Trustees adopted the Future Vision Plan.  A Pilot program is being implemented  this Rotary year to continue to make Rotary more relevant through more diverse local and International Grants administered by Rotary Clubs.  District 6860 to which we belong is a Future Vision Pilot District and we are a Pilot Club.  The RCGH is moving aggressively to seek International and District Grants under this new RI initiative.

The 2010 RI Council on Legislation approved the addition of a fifth Avenue of Service, New Generations.  New Generations joins Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service and International Service as the foundation of Club activity.  RCGH has been a significant participant in serving youth and young professionals of the Huntsville Community through support of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Rotaract for college age young adults and Interact for Young Professionals. The New Generation Avenue of Service strengthens the RI commitment to this important segment of our community.

In addition to Avenues of Service RCGH continues our support the RI program of eradicating polio worldwide, supporting The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and providing assistance to children in the need of basic necessities that enhances their ability to concentrate on participating in the learning process in school.  The Rotary Educational  Assistance  Program (REAP),  is managed by the RCGH  Foundation. Resources generated by RCGH activities support REAP and 100% of the resources raised are used for child assistance.

If serving the community is of interest I encourage you to come and visit with us, experience the excellent fellowship, and join with the members of the Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville in putting into action “Service above Self”.
